With over 4500 member/ supporters, the award-winning KVMR is known for its eclectic programming, including an array of diverse music and cultural series, independent news, cutting edge public affairs shows, and unique live-remote broadcasts.

In recent years, the station has achieved a national reputation as a leader in community-based radio. Former GM Terhorst is Chairman of the Governing Board of the 180-station National Federation of Community Broadcasters (NFCB) and KVMR has twice received that group's Community Impact Award in recent years, as well as various other honors.

KVMR conducted a nationwide search for General Manager, beginning in December, 2005. The search yielded 27 applicants from across the United States, including Alaska. Three finalists were invited to Nevada City for a unique interview process which included vetting by staff, the board of directors, and the public. Each candidate was offered an evening forum, in which they introduced themselves, spoke about the future of community radio, and answered questions from the audience. Forums were held on three consecutive evenings. The crowd included broadcasters, listener/supporters, volunteers, and the general public. Input was solicited from all KVMR stakeholders in the form of written comment.

According to board Treasurer Don Kewman, all feedback provided by staff, community members and those attending the forums was thoughtfully considered and he noted, "Each of the three finalists had significant strengths that would make them good general managers." Kewman also said that the board decided Levin had the best mix of attributes that KVMR needs during the next five to ten years.

"KVMR has entered an exciting growth period. It was time to decide whether we remain in adolescence or take that next step into adulthood," said Board President Joey Jordan. "The board selected the candidate it believes possesses the best skill set to take that step." The board voted unanimously to offer the position to Levin. He is expected to relocate to Nevada City from his home in Chicago by the week of April 10th.

Jordan said that Levin's first priority is to get to know the community-KVMR's broadcasters and other volunteers, staff, listener/supporters and the myriad of other interested stakeholders. "He's very excited about making this move and we're equally pleased to welcome David into the KVMR family."

Levin brings a variety of media knowledge to KVMR. He has extensive senior management experience with proven success in commercial and community media and the arts, including President of Levin Media since 2002; Managing Director of the Chicago Jazz Ensemble from 2004-06; Vice President of WFMT Radio Networks and Interim General Manager of WFMT-Chicago's Fine Arts Station-- from 1986-2002; He was Station Manager of WILL-TV, AM-FM at the University of Illinois from 1982-1986, and General Manager of Georgia Public Broadcasting-- Savannah's first public radio station-- from its inception in 1979 until 1982.
